Why should you add an eye pillow to your relaxation practice?

Do you ever lie down at the end of a yoga class or pre-bedtime and your mind won’t stop whirring? This can often be down to our nervous system still being in it’s more heightened state after a busy day. An eye pillow can help with exactly that, by placing it’s gentle weight across your eyes you are soothing the nervous system and encouraging your mind to quieten and body to relax.

Why are Yogipod eye pillows different?

Our eye pillows are a little different to a lot of others on the market.

• Designed to be beautiful as well as to soothe your nervous system, our eye pillows are handmade in my Oxfordshire studio from fabric hand block printed by a cluster of artisan workshops in Rajasthan.
• Our eye pillows are unscented. Scent is so personal so either use them unscented (it’s the weight that is magic) or add your favourite essential oil to personalise your rest
• Filled with organic linseed and nothing else

How do eye pillows work?

By placing the gentle weight of an eye pillow over the eye area it sends a signal to the vagus nerve via a reflex called the oculocardiac reflex. Stimulating, or toning, this nerve is often associated with helping us drop out of fight or flight and into our more relaxed state.

Of course eye pillows also block out the light and remove visual stimulations and distractions. This can have the effect of helping us to relax and quieten the mind.
