What benefit does an eye pillow bring to a yoga practice?

In the most basic of terms an eye pillow helps you to relax. They are perfect to add to the end of a yoga class when you are in savasana, the laid down relaxation pose. They are placed gently across the eye area which blocks out light as well as stimulating the vagus nerve, helping you to unwind.

Why are Yogipod eye pillows different?

Our eye pillows are a little different to a lot of others on the market.

• Designed to be beautiful as well as to soothe your nervous system, our eye pillows are handmade in my Oxfordshire studio from fabric hand block printed by a cluster of artisan workshops in Rajasthan.
• Our eye pillows are unscented. Scent is so personal so either use them unscented (it’s the weight that is magic) or add your favourite essential oil to personalise your rest
• Filled with organic linseed and nothing else

How do eye pillows work?

By placing the gentle weight of an eye pillow over the eye area it sends a signal to the vagus nerve via a reflex called the oculocardiac reflex. Stimulating, or toning, this nerve is often associated with helping us drop out of fight or flight and into our more relaxed state.

Of course eye pillows also block out the light and remove visual stimulations and distractions. This can have the effect of helping us to relax and quieten the mind.
