What is an eye pillow used for?

If you’ve never tried an eye pillow before then you might be wondering why you need them and what yoou use one for. Often found in yoga studios but less commonly for those of us that practice from they a prop pureply used for relaxation. Placed across the eye area they soothe the nervous system and help you relax whether that’s at the end of a long day, pre bed or post yoga practice.

Why are Yogipod eye pillows different?

Our eye pillows are a little different to a lot of others on the market.

• Designed to be beautiful as well as to soothe your nervous system, our eye pillows are handmade in my Oxfordshire studio from fabric hand block printed by a cluster of artisan workshops in Rajasthan.
• Our eye pillows are unscented. Scent is so personal so either use them unscented (it’s the weight that is magic) or add your favourite essential oil to personalise your rest
• Filled with organic linseed and nothing else

How do eye pillows work?

By placing the gentle weight of an eye pillow over the eye area it sends a signal to the vagus nerve via a reflex called the oculocardiac reflex. Stimulating, or toning, this nerve is often associated with helping us drop out of fight or flight and into our more relaxed state.

Of course eye pillows also block out the light and remove visual stimulations and distractions. This can have the effect of helping us to relax and quieten the mind.
