It’s the new year so if you’re anything like me you’re itching to make some plans for travel and treats for later on in the year. Maybe for you that includes a yoga retreat? If that’s the case then you’re in the right place as I’m rounding up seven of my favourite yoga retreats for 2024.
What is a yoga retreat?
A yoga retreat is an immersive yoga experience. An organised holiday or get away which includes yoga practices as well as often including other experiences. They vary in length, from day retreats, to weekends to full week or fortnight long gatherings. Usually they will be held in a large house or estate in the UK or abroad so that all participants live together, eat meals in community and practice together. They can be transformative experiences due to taking the participants out of their day to day lives and introducing deeper practices than can be taught in hour long classes.
7 yoga retreats recommended for 2024
1. Our Retreat – Somerset, Dorset, Chamonix, Ibiza, Italy, Portugal & Menorca
With locations across Europe Our Retreat really does have a retreat for everyone. From yoga and pilates retreats held in this gorgeous yurt in Somerset to yoga and skiing in Chamonix as well as the addition of hiking and surfing in other locations.
Run by Lisa all of Our Retreat’s offerings are designed to help you unwind and connect to yourself regardless of location and teacher. Their aim is to be “surrounded by natural beauty, you’ll train your body, nourish your soul and recharge your mind on a wellness experience like no other”
2. AdaptXplore – Dorset
Founded by Richie and Tamara AdaptXplore is more than a straight yoga retreat. Bringing together disciplines that they both swear by you’ll be introduced to breathwork, pool training, hiking and strength training all within the gorgeous surroundings of the Dorset countryside.
With the promise to “reconnect with your senses, re-wild your soul and be part of our good vibe tribe” this seems like the perfect treat for 2024.
3. Soul Sanctuary – Portugal, Crete & Dorset
Yoga teacher Cat Meffan brings her online membership to life in her Soul Sanctuary retreats. Scattered across the globe her offerings bring together yoga, meditation, sound and movement to help you dive into a deeper form of healing.
With meals that look mouth watering and in stunning locations, you are bound to find the space you need to switch off as well as the energy to explore and enjoy new practices, nature and people.
4. Nurture the Soul – Mallorca & West Sussex
The dream for Helen and Toni, the duo behind Nuture the Soul, is to provide “others with a sanctuary away from our daily lives to replenish & relax, to connect, to heal and to just be”.
Their day retreats (based at a stunning house in Chichester that you may recognise from Grand Designs) combine yoga, sound healing, cold water exposure and gorgeous food to help you step out of your normal world.
Offering a four day escape in Mallorca this year too they have all the bases covered to help you relax.
5. Sky Hut – Greece
You won’t believe the view from Sky Hut Retreats house in Greece. If sea views are your thing then this is the retreat for you.
Beyond that founder Aliki has curated the most beautiful itinerary for these retreats. Featuring yoga, calisthenics, creative workshops, dance, sea swimming and bodyweight workouts this retreat is about the whole of you
6. The Wild Times – New Forest, Morocco, Lake District, Somerset & Sweden
Yoga retreats are as much about immersing yourself in your surroundings as finding yourself coming back to you. That’s what The Wild Times does brilliantly. As their name might suggest The Wild Times are rooted in adventure and nature. Their retreats include paddle boarding, wild swimming and hiking as well as daily yoga.
The Wild Times pillars are rest, play, explore and flow and with those ideas in mind you’re sure to find a way to let go on their retreats
7. Lisa Valentine Retreats – Oxfordshire, Cotswolds, French Alps, Italy & Sri Lanka
Lisa aims to run welcoming, friendly retreats that help you “disconnect to reconnect”. For Lisa retreats are all about stopping the bustle of day to day life, taking the time to breathe and put your health and wellbeing first.
Bringing together a love of adventure and yoga all Lisa’s retreats include space to explore whether that be in the UK or abroad.
Create your own retreat at home
If you don’t have the time or finances to head off on retreat in 2024 then do not worry, you can still bring a bit of that magic to your home. How about carving our your own retreat day for yourself or a group of friends?
Some ideas you might want to try are:
- Booking a local yoga teacher to come and teach a private class for you and your friends
- Pulling together a couple of different online classes into a retreat day schedule
- Treating yourself to a delivered or pre-prepared healthy meal
- Adding yoga props to your practice and treating yourself to an hour long nidra or sound bath online
- Booking time off from work and just taking a day at home to read, practice and unwind
And that’s it, my round up of the 7 best yoga retreats for 2024, hopefully you’ve found some inspiration. If you have, please do let me know in the comments below or share this post with a friend if you think they’ll love it
